What is Snapshot

A snapshot captures the records on a blockchain at a point in time, including all the confirmed blocks up to that point. Snapshots come in handy during hard forks because the new chain, despite operating independently, is generated based on the main chain and therefore shares the past transaction data before the occurrence of the fork.
